Shumba 4 Max: An Off Road Caravan for Shared Family Adventures
A smaller camping setup can be appealing when you want to keep your holidays uncomplicated. The Mbada Cub is positioned by Tuff Cats as a compact Off Road Caravan, combining a fixed internal bed with outdoor cooking and practical campsite facilities. It gives travellers a model to investigate when a permanent sleeping space is high on their wish list.
Compactness is most useful when the layout works for you. Think about the items you genuinely need on a weekend away, the space you use at camp and whether you prefer spending most of the day outside. Those decisions can help you assess the Cub on its own terms.
A Fixed Bed at the Centre of the Layout
Inside the Mbada Cub is an approximately double-sized fixed bed, with a memory foam top layer, headboard and two reading lights. Drawers underneath create packing space. Three aluminium windows and a roof raised by four electric actuators complete key parts of the living arrangement.
The Mbada 2 Max also offers a fixed double-sized bed, but its equipment list includes indoor benches and a table. This makes it worth exploring if you want a place to sit inside as well as a permanent sleeping area. The Cub’s compact positioning may appeal to a different camping routine; view both before deciding which layout suits you.
Construction and Wheels for Adventure Travel
The Cub uses a galvanised chassis with aluminium framing and cladding. Its listed wheel package is 15-inch, with two alloy rims and a steel spare. It also includes four stabilisers, a heavy-duty jockey wheel and an integrated nosecone.
Wheel size alone does not tell you how a caravan will behave on your planned route. Ask Tuff Cats about the complete tyre and suspension specification, towing compatibility and clearance. Confirm the Cub’s own dimensions and weights rather than assuming that general figures published for the Mbada family apply to this model.
An Outdoor Kitchen with Useful Storage
The two-door kitchen incorporates a stainless steel work surface, a gas cooker and a slide intended for a low-profile fridge. Kitchen drawers and storage behind the fridge support organisation. The fridge is optional, so its selection should form part of your final setup discussion.
Water and Electricity Without Guesswork
The Cub lists a 120-litre tank, five-litre on-demand gas geyser and an off-side shower enclosure with a mixer and detachable basin. A 100Ah lithium battery works with Victron equipment: a 12V 30A charger, BMV-712 monitor, 100/30 Smart Solar controller and Battery Protect.
For an independent camping routine, start with a daily usage estimate. Think about drinking water, meal preparation and showers, then identify where you can refill. For electricity, consider your chosen fridge and devices alongside charging availability. A roof-mounted solar panel is an optional extra, so discuss it separately from the standard solar-control equipment.
No single battery or water-tank figure guarantees a fixed number of days off-grid. Building the configuration around your habits is a more useful way to plan.
Explore the Other Tuff Cats Layouts
The Shumba 2 uses a side fold-out bed with a canvas top, providing a different sleeping arrangement from the Cub’s fixed internal bed. The Mbada 2D Max retains a fixed bed while adding a separately listed shower-access door. Explore these guides if your priorities centre on how you deploy the bed or move between sleeping and washing facilities.
Visit the Mbada Cub product page and arrange a walkthrough with Tuff Cats. Check the bed, kitchen and storage together to decide whether this Off Road Caravan delivers the compact camping experience you want.
